Frequently Asked Questions
1) What makes Lionstone different from other language service providers?
Lionstone approaches language access from a systemic, organization‑wide perspective, not just through individual translation or interpretation tasks. We help organizations build long‑term, sustainable language access systems that integrate people, tools, technology, and training. This includes language access planning, workflow design, interpreter program development, and Title VI/LEP compliance support.

2) What areas do you serve?Â
We are based in the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts and provide services throughout Massachusetts and beyond. We offer virtual consulting, training, translation, and assessments to organizations anywhere, and in‑person services when feasible.

3) Which languages do you support?Â
We provide written translation, consulting, and training in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, and verbal interpretation between English and Spanish. We also help organizations design multilingual communication systems that support additional languages.

4) What is Language Access?Â
Language access refers to how effectively speakers of other languages can understand, navigate, and benefit from your organization’s services. Strong language access includes translation, interpretation, staff training, clear workflows, and compliance with Title VI and LEP (Limited English Proficiency) requirements.

5) What is Language Access Consulting?
Language Access Consulting evaluates how your organization currently handles multilingual communication and identifies cost-effective system‑level improvements. This may include language access assessments, workflow optimization, interpreter program design, policy development, staff training, and technology recommendations.

6) How is Language Access Consulting different from translation and interpretation services?Â
Translation and interpretation address individual communication needs, while Language Access Consulting strengthens the entire system—policies, workflows, staffing, technology, and training. This helps organizations reduce costs, empower staff, improve consistency, and ensure equitable access for multilingual communities.

7) Do you offer translation services for individuals, or only for organizations?Â
We provide translation services for both individuals and organizations, including personal documents, community materials, and organizational communications.

8) Do you use machine translation?
No. All translations are performed by qualified, experienced human translators to ensure accuracy, cultural relevance, and clarity.

9) I need an urgent translation faster than your listed times. Can you help?
Yes. While our standard turnaround times range from five to ten business days, we may be able to accommodate urgent requests depending on workload and capacity. Rush translations incur an additional fee. Please email us here and we will confirm availability and pricing within 2 business days.Â

10) My organization has a limited budget for language access. Can you still help us?Â
Absolutely. We regularly work with nonprofits, schools, and government agencies and can tailor our services to your budget. We also provide grant‑writing technical assistance to help organizations secure funding for language access.

11) What are your prices?Â
Most consulting and training services are billed at $60/hour. Translation services are billed per word in the target language:
-
Standard: $0.25/word
-
Rush: $0.35/word
We are happy to provide scopes of work and estimates for larger projects.
